REVIEW: Lovesliescrushing - Glinter

8.25 out of 10

Upon first listen of their discography, it might seem easy to simply cast off Lovesliescrushing as just another Shoegaze band. But once you get past their parallel devotion to swooning guitars and celestial bliss, you discover that this band goes far beyond genre conventions. What Cortez took from the Shoegaze movement was its desire to explore the sonic possibilities that traditional Rock instrumentation offers. And, though it might be a stretch to say so, I feel as if few guitarists push the boundaries of their instrument as far as Cortez does.

On LLC's most recent album, 'Glinter', which includes three tracks each over twenty minutes in length, Cortez shows us that his vision is still nothing short of awe-inspiring. In fact, none of the group's recordings have ever been this colossal in scope. Whether it be the ominous organ-like guitars of “Broken Aureate Echo” or the sweeping vocal manipulations of “She Is Above The Clouds,” each song on here resonates like the faint impressions of a dream. They immediately pull you into some faraway place with their gentle, swirling melodies. And for twenty minutes, they keep you levitated in their grace, as they slowly morph and mutate amidst a diverse array of glitches and little oddities only Cortez could create with such control.

You have just been given an hour to lose yourself in. Enjoy.
