As Saschienne, Sascha Funke has formed a duo extraordinaire with multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and wife Julienne Dessagne, displaying an expressivity previously unknown to anyone following his solo work. Far away from the romantic hokum of crude feelgood songwriting, both not only focus on on the harmony and bliss, but explore the discord, the misunderstandings that great love brings with it. Saschienne‘s debut release 'Unknown' maintains the perfect balance between intimate idiosyncracies and public formatting, going from quickly sketched chords and whispered consonants to a full-blown thunderstorm in just a matter of a few tracks. It's a hypnotic road movie worthy of Bonnie & Clyde, gaining momentum as a marathon runner would... the music reaches out further and further, always fascinated of what might be behind the next curve. This point is driven home by this track, the very first of the album, when Julienne sings, "This Unknown... keeps us together, brings us closer". The artists themselves are perfectly aware of their taste for adventure: "Willing to know the unknown is what makes us travel forward and further... welcome on board!". The little birds in our backyard. And occasionally, to our own music that we're putting together for our forthcoming live act :)
How did this project come to be?
It started in the middle of nowhere, in France (Bourgogne). Julienne pressed the first keys and a million of ideas came up. Born out of love!
Will this just be a one time thing or..?
Of course not. It's just the beginning of the adventure!
Will you be touring anytime soon?
Yes, we are starting our live tour in May this year. Saschienne is ready to put its club outfit on! The live sound is pretty different to the album, we are revisiting some of the tracks, combining them with new ones, bringing the spirit of the album on the dance floor. We're excited.
Who's your favorite Kompakt artist?
Our hippie friends Pachanga Boys, of course!
Got any other projects we should know about?
We are constantly producing new music, but for now our energy focuses on the live show.
What movie/tv show would work best on mute while listening to your music?
Well, probably people's own movies, what plays in their mind while listening to our music :)
You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Wow, no, that would be a tragedy! Because we would probably end up hating our favourite album!
Are you living your dream?
We have many dreams, it will take us a lifetime to reach them all!
