EIC'S 10Q's w/ CocoRosie

"..Freak Folk to Casio-Pop/Electro-Pop to Jazz to just indescribable.."

CocoRosie
Anomalous Symmetry

CocoRosie Bio:
The luminously lovely Indie Folk-Tronic duo CocoRosie consists of the Casady sisters, vocalist/guitarist/harpist Sierra and vocalist/percussionist Bianca. Both sisters had an early love of music that they pursued as they grew up, albeit in different ways: Sierra began operatic vocal training while she was in high school, while Bianca sang and wrote songs but kept them to herself. That is, until she reconnected with Sierra, who joined Bianca at her Paris apartment, and they started playing and recording songs together. The fruits of their labor, La Maison de Mon Reve, was released in spring 2004 by Touch and Go and was predated by a string of dates in New York with Devendra Banhart, the Gena Rowlands Band, Battles, and Ratatat. Their second album, Noah's Ark, which featured cameos by Devendra Banhart and Antony of Antony and the Johnsons, arrived in fall 2005. 2007's The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn was a more polished but still eclectic effort. The following year they released the single God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me, which also appeared on 2010's Grey Oceans. Inspired by the sisters' travels through Europe, Australia and South America, the album was released by Sub Pop.

Hello, how are you?
BC: good thanks.

What are you currently listening to?
Sissy Nobby

Care to tell us about your upcoming LP, themes, story behind the album title, etc?
The couple of songs we are releasing right now are about ghosts and witches and the mass slaughter of girl children in India and China.

Will you be touring the US for said release?
We are touring California for now and will most likely do many more US dates in the fall.

Speaking of touring, you guys have been at it for a while, what's the most bizarre thing that's happened to you while on tour?
Nothing bizarre comes to mind just lots of wonderful adventures. OK, one time we were skinny dipping in the middle of the night in a small town in Germany and we got caught and had to jump a fence, mostly naked, cutting our selves on the sharp fence and almost getting eating by a huge guard dog.

Is there one thing in particular that gives CocoRosie it's "drive" to stay together and create the art that you do?
Adventure, new music, challenges, love.

Got any other projects we should know about?
We just created and performed a theatrical dance piece called "Nightshift" and Sierra created an experimental opera. I had an art show June 28th in NYC called Daisy Chain.

What movie would work best on mute while listening to your music?
White Chicks or The Dark Crystal

You can only keep/listen to ONE album for the rest of your life ..which album would it be?
Whales or Birds sounds I suppose.

Are you living your dream?
Beyond

Thanx Daniel & CocoRosie!

CocoRosie are currently touring a few places right now, followed by a more extensive (hopefully) US tour this Fall (also, hopefully, a new lp sometime soon?)...
