REVIEW: Gardens & Villa - Gardens & Villa

7 out of 10

When Gardens & Villa's record begins I get the immediate sensation of a young/freshly resurrected Fischerspooner kicking in, then (in the blink of a melody) these bells & guitar tones comes in and I'm suddenly reminded of Pinback, maybe The Shins. How can such opposing sounds work together so harmoniously is the big question here. It does. Gardens & Villa deliver a perfect punch of "Sunny Side Pop" with a side of cutesy/retro sounding Electro homages.

Keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, vocals, and flutes (of the Native American variety), these are the supporting cast members in Gardens & Villa's debut self titled release. The production is crispy-clean-sparkly, every song can leave you humming for days, and their optimistic sound is sort of addictive. Just give it a go, I guarantee you this record will be perfect for the upcoming/current heat wave.

I don't know why, but I see big (good) things for this band in the future. This kind of music seems like it could please a whole array of different opinions. Recommended.

Standout Tracks: All nice, but especially; Thorn Castles, ORANGE BLOSSOM (one of the best songs you will hear all year REPEATx∞.), Chemtrails (the only melancholy one of the bunch), Sunday Morning (k, I lied there's two melancholy tracks:), Carrizo Plain
