7.5 out of 10"Nitetime Rainbows" is the second single from ASDIG'S second full length "Ashes Grammar" (EIC's #13 album of 2009). "Nitetime Rainbows" is also one of the album highlights of "Ashes Grammar" so I was definitely excited to hear about it becoming it's own little EP/single. If you are reading this chances are you already know about A Sunny Day In Glasgow's sugary sweet persona, I'll go ahead and assume you do;)
One of the most pleasing things about this EP is that many of the tracks, much like "Ashes Grammar", intertwine and mesh into each other, creating this fluidic form of Dream Pop that's always desirable (if you ask me). Lot's of experimental guitar fx, rolling drum sounds, beautiful female vocal harmonies/samples, piano melodies (a few more than usual), and a few sparse keyboard sounds make this EP a nice standout for 2010. The first track is the title track taken from "Ashes Grammar", the second, third, and fourth are all unreleased. I particularly like track 4 "Piano Lessons" for it's use of piano. The last 3 tracks are all remixes, the first remix (best of the three) has some nice vocal sampling that's a little glitchy. The second remix is crunchy white noise that brings to mind something you may hear on Type Records. The third and final remix is a nice little droney track with a few micro-electronic touches. This is ASDIG, once again, doing what ASDIG does best; which is creating the candy coated experimental drones/saturations on top of many, MANY, layers of sound/noise & vocals.
It's no secret that I love ASDIG, and (I think) if you would go listen to this band right now it would be no secret that you love them too. I'm really hoping for a "Secret's At The Prom" single next.. Recommended.
