REVIEW: Valet - False Face Society

7.5 out of 10

Last year Honey Owens (aka Valet) shared "Naked Acid" with us, her version of Psychedelic Drone-Bliss/Freak Out Music. This year she graces our ears again with her "one take" recordings on a short EP titled "False Face Society".

Track one, "Angels Can't Stop", is a 15+ minute track that begins with a bizarre/"underwater-like" chant with various drone effects, slowly but surely rumbling tom drum sounds break up the bliss only to dive back into a drawl coma. If you have 15 minutes to spare I suggest taking the track in while doing absolutely nothing except relaxing with your favorite headphones on, it can be transcending in the right state of mind. Track 2, "Dealer VS. Ocean" puts more of a "paranoid" effect on the listeners ears. It starts off with what sounds like a nervous/broke down clock ticking away accompanied by syncopated blurbles of heavily distorted heartbeat sounds. Eventually non-sensical words/sounds crawl out of Ms. Owens mouth and fall into a pool of guitar malformations. Track 3, "Rainbow", has a tribal pulse, acidic vocals, and "funk-y" guitar effects, great Psych track. Every song on this short, but sweet album has it's own unique "aura", making it real standout amongst today's "garden variety drone" ..if there is such a thing.

"False Face Society" is a rapturous composition for a kaleidoscopic mental state. RECOMMENDED.

Standout Tracks: Angels Can't Stop, Dealer VS. Ocean, Rainbow ..yep all of em.
