REVIEW: Tim Exile - Listening Tree

8.25 out of 10

Tim Shaw aka Tim Exile is a an English producer of "Future-Pop" music. "Listening Tree" is his third official release. The first two were on the terrific label Planet Mu, "Listening Tree" is on Warp Records, where it seems to fit like a glove. Tim Exile sounds like that David Gahan (Depeche Mode) Clark duet you always wanted. Or an even "slightly more experimental Matthew Dear" meets Prodigy. "Listening Tree" is extremely fun/unique "Electro Pop" music done by a guy who probably has OCD when it comes to his production.

If you're not pleased with the first four tracks you hear on "Listening Tree" I would say you're "special", and that you're not listening. Acidic House Techno blends in and out of overly catchy "pop" song structures with production that is just so meticulous and spotless. Seriously BUY THIS if you like Depeche Mode's darker pop side or Clark's sick electronic textures. Even if you don't care for above references at least check this album out RIGHT NOW. Keep in mind each track brings it's own unique performance/level of quality to the record while still maintaining a solid flowing pop masterpiece.

"Listening Tree" is one of those albums where you pick your favorite song, and then the next song comes on and you say "no wait, this one", and then the next song comes on "no, wait, this one..." and so on and so on. One of the best albums of 2009. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Standout Tracks: Don't Think We're One, Family Galaxy, Fortress, There's Nothing Left Of Me But Her And This, Pay Tomorrow, Bad Dust, Carouselle, When Everyday's A Number (oh yaaa, goood track), Listening Tree, I Saw The Weak Hand Fall (one of the best songs I've heard this year)...that's all of them.
