REVIEW: Kiasmos/Rival Consoles - 65 / Milo

6.75 out of 10

Kiasmos is a newer artist on Erased Tapes. It's only member is some dude that goes by Olafur Arnalds. Kiasmos is Minimal Techno. Rival Consoles is the other electronic artist on this split. RC "rivals" some of the best Aphex Twin songs. "65 / Milo" is a split that kicks the dance floors ass.

The first song on this split, "65", sounds like a more abrasive Audion with slightly "crisper" production. I always like to hear artists try completely new themes with their work, and to hear Olafur Arnalds go from "Neo-Classical" to "Techno" is somewhat exciting. "Walled", the other Kiasmos song, is a super catchy bobb your head, shake your butt kind of song. Thick four count kicks, claps, "beachy" sounds, mechanical snares/white noises, and all of those great elements you sometimes just need in a dancey electronic song. "Milo" is where Rival Consoles begins there form of IDM wizardry. The song is very reminiscent of the "Analord" days of Aphex Twin. "Func" is a terrific dancey IDM song, one of my favorite Rival Consoles songs. "ARP" sounds like a Clark song. Overall this a pretty tight split. The beat never stops, each tracks flows into the next. It's fun, upbeat, sometimes cheesy, and definitely an essential Erased Tapes release.

Buy this if you want to dance or if you're a DJ NOW.

Standout Tracks: Walled, Func, ARP
