REVIEW: Junior Boys - Begone Dull Care

7.25 out of 10

I was first introduced to Junior Boys at a concert where they opened for Mouse On Mars and Ratatat (yeah, great show). I had heard the name, but just didn't look into them yet. They ended up playing an amazing set, good enough that I immediately turned around and walked to the merch booth to purchase their debut album "Last Exit". I've seen them two more times since then and definitely consider myself an enthusiastic fan. Their music is soothing, sensual, catchy, and simple. Along with the sexual accords of synthesizers/samples are the "libidinous" vocal's of Jeremy Greenspan and the master engineering skills of Matt Didemus. Junior Boys are "sexual" bedroom or even dance floor music. "Begone Dull Care" is Junior Boys third full length album in which they bring back that same "grandeur". "Begone Dull Care" is also somewhat of a "concept" album based of off the works of award winning animator Norm Mclaren.

On "Begone Dull Care" Junior Boys don't stray too far away from their "sophisticated" sound. The synthesizers are right on par with "So This Is Goodbye" and the samples/beats are reminiscent of their debut. All of the sounds within, as usual, are as tight as possible. Sometimes "80's" inspired, sometimes "modern", sometimes "more experimental" than previous offerings, and always captivating.

Junior Boys have that "unique" ability where they are both good in the background and foreground. I believe Junior Boys to be befitting towards most ears. Their prevalent compositions of electronic sensuality are both provocative and affectionate. Don't miss this release.

Standout Tracks: Work, Dull To Pause, The Animator, What It's For

  1. Love the album. Took a few listens, but the good ones always do. Very sophisticated sounding, they're developing, the new album is great.

We need to start a band like this.

    9/10
