REVIEW: Elegi - Varde

7.75 out of 10

Miasmah is a terrific "newer" label run by Erik Skodvin of "Svarte Greiner/Deaf Center". Miasmah is home to mainly Experimental/Electronic/Ambient/Neo-Classical composers. Elegi is one of those artists. On "Varde", Elegi's second release, you will find the same terrifically bizarre field recordings, classical instruments, odd samples, and one of a kind lush atmospheres that truly makes up for a good Miasmah release.

First off, How To "ready" yourself for this album; Step 1. Own headphones. Step 2. Sit Down, don't get up. Step 3. Relax yourself, get on pace with what will be a slow journey of distortion and depth. Step 4. Close your eyes. Step 5. Lay your head back. Step 6. Melt.

"Varde" is chalked full of classical themes (i.e.; violin, piano, etc.), a few guitar plucks, minimal vocal samples, and dark alluring metaphors performed by found sounds. It is, in a sense, "Post-Apocalyptic" music from a "foreign" world. It is, in another sense, "organic din's" attaching themselves to your ear and holding on as tight as possible. You will generally feel relaxed/docile, you may feel frigthened at some moments, but you will not "feel nothing".

Given the right mind set, and the perfect atmosphere, "Varde" is as perfect as an Ambient/Classical album gets. Buy this album now, and relax already.

Standout Tracks: All of them. Check out "Uranienborg" for some twinkly good piano.
